The brief trip advisor preview itinerary
Day 1
Your England travel starts with Britishtourplans by heading north to the University
city of Cambridge with lots of free time to relax and explore this famous and
facinating city with suggestions of what to see and do.
Day 2
North again through Lincolnshire and Yorkshire today to reach York, England’s
‘eternal city’ with its history recorded in its streets. It was
for hundreds of years, England’s second city and within its medieval walls
the Minster forms a centrepiece for the relics of Roman and Viking occupation.
Again, lots of free time to explore because there is so much to see and do,
ranging from visiting the Minster to shopping in ‘the Shambles’
but again we offer suggestions of what to see and do.
Day 3
Leaving York we again head north through the old coaching town of Thirsk and
James Herriot country (the film and TV series about a Yorkshire vet), We continue
through the North Pennines Area of Outstanding Beauty to visit the Beamish Open
Air Museum, a living and working experience of life during the 18th and 19th
century in northern England. Then to Durham with its magnificent castle and
even more magnificent Cathedral, which was voted as Britain’s best loved
building.
Day 4
North again, just for a change, to follow the coast to the Scotish border. We
visit Alnwick and if we catch the tide right visit the Holy Isle – Lindisfarne
before spending a short time in Berwick upon Tweed, the town that has changed
hands between the Scots and the English so many times over the years and not
often peacefully. To Edinburgh with lots of free time to explore and see the
sights and again we offer suggestions for what to see and do..
Day 5
We spend the day and night in Edinburgh with lots of free time to explore and
see the sights and again we offer suggestions for what to see and do..
Day 6
To Stirling’s massively impressive fortress which overlooks the battlefields
of Stirling Bridge and Bannockburn, where William Wallace and Robert the Bruce
defeated the English. Then onward to Pitlochry, Inverness, Loch Ness and Fort
William visiting lots of interesting places between.
Day 7
South today to Glen Coe and Loch Lomond and Scotland’s second capital,
Glasgow, as we make our way back into England. On the border we stop at Gretna
Green to see the Blacksmiths Shop that was for years where runaway couples from
England could take advantage of easygoing Scottish laws and get married very
quickly. Onwards into the English Lake District.
Day 8
We spend the day touring through the splendour of England’s Lake District.
We see Great Britain’s most famous National Park, travelling through Ambleside
to Rydal and Grassmere, the area that so inspired William Wordsworth. We build
in some free time to explore, then past Thirlmere and Hellvellyn and on to Keswick,
Buttermere and Ravenglass. If we have time we can board the “Ratty”
narrow gauge railway to ascend into Eskdale and pick up the vehicle again at
the village of Boot. The hairpin bends and steep gradients make Hardknott Pass
and Wrynose Pass the most spectacular roads in Great Britain and they lead us
past the Roman Fort and to our hotel.
Day 9
Today we travel a circular route around North Wales along the spectacular coastline,
visiting Conwy en route to Caernarfon Castle. Onwards to Snowdon, the highest
mountain in Wales which just happens to have Britain’s only ‘rack
and pinion’ railway almost to the top and after the sample these spectacular
views we return back into England to stop at the 2000-year-old Roman city of
Chester. Again, time for sightseeing and relaxing and to explore on your own.
Day 10
We continue to travel England today departing south to see one of the most memorable
sights on any England tour, Warwick with its world famous medieval castle. Then
onwards to Stratford upon Avon, renowned as the birthplace of the famous English
playwright William Shakespeare. After some leisurely sightseeing, an option
is perhaps a visit to the Swan Theatre to see a Shakespeare play.
Day 11
South again to see some of the Cotswolds and to Bleinheim Palace, birthplace
of Sir Winston Churchill and a ‘must see’ whilst in England. Then
onward to the dreaming spires of Oxford. Free time to explore with suggestions
of what to see.

Day 12
Our final day on this tour is toward Windsor, again to see one of the best castles
in England and still used today by Her Majesty. Free time to explore with lots
of suggestions of what to see.
