with some experiences that can be had nowhere else. So whether it’s a
palace or a castle, quiet rugged Lakeland scenery, Roman history or just seeing
Britain at her best, this tour will cover a little of everything including being
up the highest mountain in Wales and doing it the easy way. Perhaps combine
this tour with a few days in London and you will have had a very memorable stay
in Britain that will be remembered forever. This tour is easily extendable.
The brief trip advisor preview itinerary
Day 1
Your England travel starts with Britishtourplans by heading off to our first
stop which is at Salisbury Cathedral with its spire, the tallest in Great Britain.
The City has many Queen Anne and Georgian facades and the Old Town has narrow
alleys full of medieval houses and quaint inns. We continue our sightseeing
at Stonehenge, the major pre-historic stone circle in the UK, then onwards to
more (some say better) stone circles at the village of Avebury, which also boasts
a magnificent Saxon church. We then continue our England tour by moving on to
the Roman city of Bath which combines Roman ruins with the most complete Georgian
architecture. Free time to explore with suggestions of what to see and do.
Day 2
Your tour continues as we set off to cross the River Severn and into Wales where
our first stop is at Tintern Abbey to see the 900 year old skeleton of Wales’
most impressive monastery. Following north we travel to the picturesque village
of Ross-on-Wye, famous for its multitude of second hand bookshops- said to have
20 miles of bookshelves. We pass Offa’s Dyke, through Newtown and Welshpool
and return into England to stop at the 2000-year-old Roman city of Chester.
Again, time for sightseeing and relaxing and to explore on your own. We will
be at this hotel for 2 nights and again offer lots of suggestions for what to
see and do..
Day 3
Today we travel a circular route around North Wales along the spectacular
coastline, visiting Conwy en route to Caernarfon Castle. Onwards to Snowdon,
the highest mountain in Wales which just happens to have Britain’s only
‘rack and pinion’ railway almost to the top and after the sample
these spectacular views we return back into England to Chester.
Day 4
We tour north today into English Lakeland by the shortest route to give us as
much time as possible for sightseeing and to soak up the scenery. We stop at
the market town of Kendal and try some of the local mint cake, on to the Victorian
resorts of Windermere and Ableside, then onward to our hotel. We will be at
this hotel for two nights. Free time to explore with some useful suggestions.
Day 5
The splendour of the England’s Lake District. We see Great Britain’s
most famous National Park, travelling through Ambleside to Rydal and Grassmere,
the area that so inspired William Wordsworth. We build in some free time to
explore, then past Thirlmere and Hellvellyn and on to Keswick, Buttermere and
Ravenglass. If we have time we can board the “Ratty” narrow gauge
railway to ascend into Eskdale and pick up the vehicle again at the village
of Boot. The hairpin bends and steep gradients make Hardknott Pass and Wrynose
Pass the most spectacular roads in Great Britain and they lead us past the Roman
Fort and back to our hotel.
Day 6
We leave the English Lakeland by a different route today, Setting off over the
highest road in the Lake District, Kirkstone Pass, an old coaching road on which
in years past, passengers had to disembark to get the coach up the steep hills
known as ‘the struggle’. So we see Ullswater and if we have time,
walk along to Aira Force where Wordsworth penned about ‘daffodils’.
To Penrith and across the North Yorkshire Moors through charming English villages
to Richmond and ending the day in York with its glorious Minster. Free time
in York with lots of useful suggestions of what to see.
Day 7
South today and back towards the Heart of England. Leaving York, towards the
Derbyshire Dales and the ‘Palace of the Peak’ in Derbyshire’s
Peak District National Park, this is the stately home of the Duke and Duchess
of Devonshire. The on to Nottingham, home of the legendary Robin Hood.
Day 8
We continue to travel England today departing south to see one of the most memorable
sights on any England tour, Warwick Castle. Then onwards to Stratford upon Avon,
renowned as the birthplace of the famous English playwright William Shakespeare.
After some leisurely sightseeing, an option is perhaps a visit to the Swan Theatre
to see a Shakespeare play.
Day 9
South again to Bleinheim Palace, birthplace of Sir Winston Churchill and a ‘must
see’ whilst in England. Then onward to the dreaming spires of Oxford.
Free time to explore with suggestions of what to see.

Day 10
Our final day on this tour is toward Windsor, again to see one of the best castles
in England and still used today by Her Majesty. Free time to explore with lots
of suggestions of what to see.
