The Brambles Cricket MatchThe Brambles Sandbank is a spit of land that lies between Southampton and the Isle of Wight on the south coast of England that is only uncovered by the sea once a year when the seasonal tide matches the normal tide along with the right sea currents. The sandbank is exposed for about an hour and in this time, the members of the Royal Southern Yacht Club and the Island Sailing Club race out to it in small boats to conduct their annual cricket match. It’s quite competitive with the spectators and crowds standing on the pitch and lots of cheating goes on. Someone keeps score and lots of beer is despatched in the short 60 minutes. The way to score a 6 is to hit the ball off the sand and into the water and as the tide comes in and the sand is once again swallowed into the sea, the easier it is to score a 6.
